"Bottom Line"

I know as my loyal readers (all 3 of you) it will break your hearts to know that between now at the 11th, I will not be updating regularly. Tomorrow I'm heading to Viva Las Vegas with my guys and gals to bring in the New Year with a slighty dull and questionably reprehensible bang. Friday is my last day at work and this weekend will be spent moving my stuff to my adoring parents home, celebrating my last few wintery days in SLC, and respectfully praising my *gulp* 24th birthday (gifts and donations, as always, are being accepted).

So lovelies, have a bang-up New Years celebration and try not to get too many sheets to the wind! I shall return Thursday with plenty of pictures to make you feel like you haven't skipped a beat.

"da da da"

With all this lottery talk, my friend has promised that if he wins, he will deposit $1 MIL into my account. My new car will be in the driveway, just to confirm that he won, since he will surely escape to Trinadad or the Maldives. This is just a friendly reminder, and to let him know that I want my new car in Sundown Orange.

"Stress Fest"

Okay, so I'm sure it'll all come together, but my roomie who was going to buy my car has decided not too. Now I have 2 weeks to sell my car and I am a little stressed. I love my car and if there was any way I could keep it, I would. So if anyone knows anyone who wants a '97 silver Honda Civic let me know.

On the better side of things, today at work has been heavenly because the boss is gone! I had a yummy bowl of clam chowder for lunch, and I wore shoes that actually 'go' with my outfit. Tonight may bring either hottubbing with the girls, packing (blah), or a solo-style movie. I am dying to see Far From Heaven or Gangs of New York. Tomorrow is going to be a lot of running around, post-Christmas parties, and a birthday party...so I need to relax.

It's crazy to think this is my last weekend living with my 'road sisters' and best friends. We've had the best times in that house the past 20 months. Kickass parties, 24-hour trips to Vegas, Buffett concerts, Dave Mattews shows, San Francisco (Bridge School Benefit), Goblin Valley, Jackson Hole, 'N-Sync UNO, speed, True Colors, fundraisers, doorbell ditching, mattress rides, the old trampoline, Shaggy's livin' room, spy nights, desparate searches for HBO, camping, room changes, sunsets, walks, crying, yelling, laughing....I love everything about those girls and the memories from that house. But plans are-a-stewin' and they will be joining me in Costa Rica around May. What a perfect ending that would be to a perfect journey!

"Miracle on 3rd West"

Another Christmas has come and gone. Weather.com and all the local meteorologists predicted no snow, so you can imagine how ecstatic I was to wake up and find snow falling. And it didn't just snow for a while, it snowed all the live long day! I have never been more excited to shovel the walks. Then all 43 members of my extended family gathered at my grandparents for dinner, gift exchanging, and lots 'o love! How lucky am I?

This morning I realized I didn't pack any shoes with me on my overnighter, so here I am all dressed up for work wearing my new trail runners. Typical. Oh, and I was 30 minutes late today. Have I mentioned I only have to work here 4 more days?

"Chinchilla Zest Danileesa"

Just what I needed today....

Everyone here is cranky and grown men have been flipping off grown women. The silent treatment is in full force, and I'm not trying to pull a dooce on anyone, but I've had it up to HERE with my job (oh the stories I could tell). Can I really make it 5 more days here? Where is the Christmas spirit people? Where's the love? I made you all salsa, now BE NICE!

At least I have my family and fondue to look forward to tonight. I hope you're all as lucky. If not; call loved ones, eat your soup, and know that someone in Utah loves you...

"pa-rum pum pum pum"

After a weekend of tying quilts, knitting scarfs, baking, cleaning, waitressing, sewing, and errand running...I've had it! I am too young to be behaving in this fashion! Christmas is great and all, but my hell, I should be having friends over, going to see lights, going to parties where they serve cheese balls and fruitcake, playing games like twister and phase 10 (wait, I covered that...and no, it wasn't strip twister), wearing sweaters and socks by fires while sipping on egg nog and/or wassil.

Here's my first New Years resolution....I will NOT be domestic! Next year, it's gift certificates, CDs, cologne, and other predicatable gifts as usual.

Merry freakin' Christmas! No really, have a wonderful holiday. I love you all!

"Burn One Down"

"Because there was nowhere to go but everywhere"-- Jack Kerouac, On the Road

Less than 5 minutes ago I put my letter of resignation on my bosses' desk. He knew it was coming. They've all known for months. My idea to up and leave the country wasn't an over night decision. It's something I've dreamed of ever since Laura first began speaking of 'Costa Rica'. This was 2 years ago. "Rich Coast" is the Spanish translation. The more I started thinking about it, reading about it, hearing about it, asking about it...I knew I needed to be there, and all the countries that surround the area. But how? Can someone like me really sale their car, quit their job, leave their loved ones, and backpack across an entire nation?

I'm the girl who got her first job at a video store at 16. I worked a few days a week, made a crappy wage, and learned life lessons I will never forget. I worked at this video store until I returned from Europe in 1997 and began working here. This job has gotten me through college, in fact, they paid for half of every semesters tuition. I have worked in 3 different buildings, working 4 different jobs, meeting many friends, and working very hard. When I completed my degree, I had a few different supervisors call me so I could work on their teams. What a compliment! I have loved almost everyone I've come in contact with at this department. I've worked nearly every Monday through Friday for 5 years! (except an occasional trip to Mexico, California, Vegas, Chicago, New Orleans, Key West, North Carolina, Jackson Hole, Moab...okay so maybe I did miss a few days....)

But I've never been away from Utah for longer than a few weeks. I'm the girl who has followed all the rules. I graduated from high school, went straight to college, finished 4 years later, got a 'real' job, etc. I'm not the girl anyone expected to pack it all up and walk away. My own grandfather who I adore more than anyone will know said to me "I thought you had more sense than to do something like this." But if I've learned one thing it's this, no matter what I do, it will piss someone off. I cannot please everyone. I am not here to please everyone. I am living my life the best I can for me. I don't have all the answers. I can't be like you. I don't even want to be. I will never intentionally hurt you on purpose, but at times, you may be hurt and I am sincerely sorry. If reading this website makes you angry and you don't like what you see....don't read it. But this IS me. I am sensible, practical, good-hearted, and curious. I will make the best decision I can in any given situation I am placed in. Don't worry about me. Believe in me! Like my college professor perfectly described me, I like planned spontaneity. It may seem as if I'm just whisking away to some exotic foreign land, but I have studied each country, I know approximately how long I will be in each one, where we'll stay, how we'll get from place to place, and what we'll do when we get there. If at any point along my journey you have questions or concerns, ask me!

"...whoever you are, whatever it is that you do, when you really want something, it's because that desire originated in the soul of the universe. It's your mission on earth. To realize one's Personal Legend is a person's only real obligation." -- "The Alchemist", Paulo Coelho

"Don't Smoke and Knit"

I started reading "The Alchemist" this weekend. I have nearly finished and must say it is going on my 'everyone must read this' list. "A fable about following ones dreams...", why I haven't read it before is beyond me.

Friday night I headed up to Layton with Dave and Chris for a birthday party. We grilled steak and potatoes and pretty much stuffed ourselves to the brim. I came home and went to bed so I could work Saturday morning. A girl needs a little overtime now and again...

Saturday night Sommer and I went out with the newlyweds. They brought over all their pictures from Jackson Hole...they were beautiful. We went to the Old Speghetti Factory and to Todd's. A few laughs, one annoying girl, and 3 heavy metal bands later...we headed home.

Sunday I decided to explore SLC a little before I leave it for 5 months, so I drove up Emigration Canyon to see where the other end was. Turns out, it goes all the way up to Echo Lake (about 45 miles out) and I nearly ended up in Wyoming! It had snowed up there, so I got out and played in it a bit and took some pictures. It was great to get out of the city, clear my head, and breath in the fresh mountain air. When I arrived home, Sommer, Laura, and I got the Christmas tree up and decked our own halls a bit! Once we cleared out the kayak, bikes, boards, beds, and skis...put up the nativity, the advent calendar, the garland, and lights....it looks so festive! Mmmm...I LOVE the holidays!

"you can't make out with out drinks"

Yesterday I had the opportunity of working out at the lake, watching the sunset, and putting up with a lot of people's crap. Seriously...what's up with people these days? Just because I waitress as a 2nd job, they assume I'm some idiot. Don't get me wrong, most people that come cruisin' on the lake are fairly decent and up for a good time. But there's always gotta be one or two royal pricks. I just want to run around the boat with my college degree and shove it in their faces and say..."look at me, I'm not such a jackass after all, am I?"...but no, I humbly take their drink orders, get them extra rolls, and slip out back to take pictures of the fabulous sunsets!

"like i love you"

This weekend was a doozie! There was SO much going that I hardly had time to eat, sleep, or think. We ate Thanksgiving at my parents with the whole famdamily. Just as I'd expected, there was TONS of food, football, family, fun....all the necessary F's (well, almost all...).

Friday I had to work all day. It wasn't so bad....it was nice and quiet and I got a lot accomplished! Then I came home and for some reason was majorly crabby, so I decided to take myself out on a date. I went to see "Bowling for Columbine". Go see this movie! "This anatomy of trigger-happy America is by turns funny, harrowing, sad and surreal" (review by Brian Johnson) It was Sommer's birthday that night, so I came home and everyone was there hanging out. We whipped out my new digital camera and had the best laughs in a long time playing with it. We made videos, recorded sound to our pictures, and replayed them a million times!

Saturday was Jami's wedding. We (Alya, Sommer, Amber, and I) woke up early (okay, not THAT early....10ish) and ran to Joanns to get some crocheting stuff (we're all poor and are making scarfs for gifts this year). I went to my parents to practice the piano for the wedding and headed to the church at 3:45. The wedding was beautiful! Jami decorated the church so well and she looked magnificent! I posted the pictures here. See for yourself!

Sunday I went with Terreal, Sommer, and Amber to see "Solaris". Hmm....not sure what to think about the whole movie...it was, interesting....go see it and let me know your thoughts. Dave got back in town last night, so I went over to his house to hang out with he and Chris. We are such geeks....we just sat around playing with each others cameras and comparing whose takes the best pictures, etc. It was great to see him again.
