"life or something like it"

Last night after work I headed up to Park City to the outlets. I needed a new outfit for Jami's wedding Saturday, and it was just my luck. Banana Republic was having a "20% off everything sale" so I bought a shirt for $16, decided to wear my black skirt with it, and went on my marry way. Upon arriving at my house....I noticed an ambulance, some cops and the fire dept. outside my house. I couldn't quite make out what was going on until I came inside and saw Alya, Laura, and Sommer watching closely out the window. Apparently a pedestrian was crossing the street and was hit and killed outside MY home! I saw the body just lying there under a white sheet. It was SO creepy....yet so sad! Here is an article in today's paper about it. The man was 82 years old. How sad it would be to hear your grandpa was killed the night before Thanksgiving. And the poor driver! The ironic thing about it all was just the night before, Laura and I went to pick Sommer up from work and Laura didn't see a girl in the crosswalk and could have easily hit her. Life can be taken away SO easily! That is why I can't fear leaving the country just because I may get raped, mugged, hijacked, etc. Those things could happen to me here. I would rather take chances and live life to the fullest then live in fear and then one day walk out my front door and have life taken away from me in an accident such as this.

"Blech!"

What a weekend! Sorry for the lack of blogging...but it's been INSANE!

Friday night: went to Wendover on the 'Fun Bus'. Turned out not to be so fun; lost $25 on the craps table, threw up after eating at the seafood buffet, and my car wouldn't start...

Saturday: still throwing up, Matt decided to come with Jen and I on our adventure (maybe?)...so at 4 PM after the U of U won by 7 (what did I say?), he brought his ENTIRE family over to discuss the trip. Not only had I not showered all day long, but our house was a wreck from all the room changes. Plus, the only other time I'd met Matt's mom, she threw her hand in my face, yelled "GOODBYE", and threw pork rinds at me (long story). She walked in Saturday night and said, "shall we box it out or hug?" We all ended up having a good conversation and some good laughs. All in all it turned out to be an alright night.

Sunday: Dave, football, r&r....the usual....

Monday: My chacos arrived UPS style. I found them online for a bargain of $62.99 (in stores they're usually $95...SCORE!)

Tuesday: My new digital camera arrived, I got a steal on a new Vaude backpack, AND I became an aunt for the 4th time!

Madysen Noelle was born at 1:53 PM, weighing 6 lbs. 3 oz., 19.5 inches long, RED hair and beautiful!
(I will post pictures once I figure out my camera....)

Today: Had 32 messages on my voicemail, ALL my appointments have shown up, and one client caught me looking at his crotch. I'm sorry, but if you walk in here with a HUGE rip down your pants (in the general zipper area)...don't expect anything else from me...I WILL stare!

Tomorrow: planning to eat a whole lotta stuffing/turkey, watch football, and lay around complaining about how full I am while picking at leftovers. I love Thanksgiving!

"Here's to the twins"

My friend e-mailed me this morning reporting that there's a commercial running in Vegas (where she lives) that is promotting the new 80s radio station. Apparently there's some girl who looks and sounds exactly like me saying "The Eighties ROCK!" All I can say is...this girl had better watch out because there's only room for one of me on earth...and she'd better sleep with one eye open!

I'm not much of a weekend blogger, usually because I'm too busy catching up on sleep, watching football, laying around, doing laundry...you know, weekend stuff. Tonight I'm heading to Wendover on the fun bus with the Metro crew and Jen Z. Tomorrow it's the HUGE football rivalry game. U of U vs. BYU. I'm proudly sporting my red gear today. The game is a block from my house, so we're gonna be tailgating and harassing the Y fans all morning/afternoon. Utah by 7!!!

"work schmirk"

Oh how I long to be at home in bed in my flannel jammies and my down comforter surrounding me. I only have to sit in this cubicle 31 more days. The joy that brings to me in beyond words. For now I will sip my Dr. Pepper and get over myself...at least I have a job, right?

This weekend was fabulous. Jami's bachelorette party was hilarious! We played some games, ate some food, opened some presents, dug through some trash, yelled some obscenities, and hung out with some guy named Patrick. 'Nuff said!

Yesterday I watched the 49ers lose to the Chargers in OT :-( it blew. Then I hung out with the family for a bit and went back to Dave's for milkshakes and "No Man's Land". I met Jasmina and Edina last September when I began working here. They are sisters and refugees from Bosnia. I began talking with Jasmina almost daily about the Bosnian war that I knew SO little about. She suggested I read this book and it changed my life. I could not begin to comprehend what these girls lived through. It amazes me that this happened in my day and age. The torture, pain, and suffering they endured is unfathomable. This happened just miles from their home. These are stories from war survivors about what they experienced. I love and respect my friends more than they'll ever understand. They had to leave their parents, friends, and family to make a better live for themselves. If anyone is interested in reading that book, let me know and I'll send you my copy. You will never be the same.

"Miss Sarajevo"
by Bono and Pavarotti
Is there a time for keeping a distance
A time to turn your eyes away
Is there a time for keeping your head down
For getting on with your day

Is there a time for kohl and lipstick
A time for cutting hair
Is there a time for high street shopping
To find the right dress to wear

Here she comes
Heads turn around
Here she comes
To take her crown

Is there a time to walk for cover
A time for kiss and tell
Is there a time for different colors
Different names you find it hard to spell

Is there a time for first communion
A time for east 17
Is there a time to turn the mecca
Is there a time to be a beauty queen

Here she comes
Beauty plays the crown
Here she comes
Surreal in her crown

Dici che il fiume
trova la via al mare
E come il fiume
giungerai a me
Oltre i confini
e le terre assetate
Dici che come fiume
come fiume
L'amore giunger
L'amore
E non so pi pregare
E nell'amore non so pi sperare
E quell'amore non so pi aspettare

[English translation:]

You say that the river
finds the way to the sea
And as the river
you'll come to me
Beyond the borders
and the thirsty lands
You say that as river
As river
Love will come
Love
And I cannot pray anymore
And I cannot hope in love anymore
And I cannot wait for love anymore

Is there a time for tying ribbons
A time for Christmas trees
Is there a time for laying tables
When the night is set to freeze

"a sorta fairytale"

Last night I had one of those moments...you know those moments...

Went to Shaggy's with Dave, Laura, and Juliani. Stayed up too late....laughed too hard....not a better feeling than being with beautiful friends and having your face ache from smiling so much. We played the 'Like' game...he won. Playing with him gets me everytime.

"FM Nation"

I apologize to ANYONE who watched SLC portrayed on MTV's FM Nation last night. No wonder so many people out there think us SLC'ers are bizarre...first Julie from the Real World and now this.

We're not all that bad...honestly...

"Hidden Treasures"

Apparently Nordstrom's DOES take anything back! While cleaning out my old room, I found 2 skirts and a jacket I bought at the Anniversary Sale not this summer, but last summer. They were folded nicely in the bag and had the tags attached, so I pressed my luck and headed downtown to return them and "cha ching!" I was fully refunded $114.72! I also have been trying to find out where my raise went that I was approved for as of 28 September. I guess it never got entered and now the lovely state of utah (my gracious employer) owes me over $120. And to top it off....I have been spacing things off quite a bit lately since I've been planning for this trip...it just seems I have WAY too much to think about. Anyway, I realized I never got my refund of $488 for my summer semester tuition back from my last semester of college, so I got that turned in and it should appear on my next paycheck. I think someone is trying to tell me something...

That's when my weakness of buying CD's kicked in (oh yeah, I sold a bunch last week and made a whooping $30) and I went out and bought this CD. Mmmm...it's GOOD!

"Question of the Day"

Someone actually asked me "Where do they sell passports? Can I get one at Sears?" If people are dumb enough to think this...then I shouldn't feel bad when I say "yes" with a smile, right?

"Why Can't We Be Friends?"

Do you really feel safe having this man running our country?

Is there not another option besides war? I can't bear the thought of an attack on Iraq. SO many innocent people effected by this, including little old me who is leaving our country in 64 days. There's got to be another way! With all those Republicans voted into office, our nation is off balance and now we're all screwed! Bet you wish you voted now...don't ya?

Why is it that when people ask "Do you wanna hear something sad?" or "Eww...this stinks, wanna smell it?" they actually think I will say yes?

"Proudest Monkey"

What member of Dave Matthews Band are you?

"You're Dave Matthews! As Dave, you're the outgoing yet deeply troubled on the inside. Your warm and welcoming exterior is usually the introduction to a deep person who's got some problems and a wonderful perspective on society."

Hmm...never thought of myself as "troubled" or "a deep person who's got some problems" but hey...I can't complain being compared to Dave himself!

"Knick Knack Paddy Whack"

Sitting around in Amber's room this past Friday night, my roomies and I took a time trip back to the 80's. We played "Down by the Banks" and sang every song we could think of at the top of our lungs. You can imagine how obnoxious this was for the outsiders and how funny it was to us. Wilson Phillips, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Paula Abdul, Salt-N-Pepa, Milli Vanilli...we got 'em all covered. After we nearly lost our voices, Laura, Sommer and I went to run an 'errand' and drove around SLC in boas, cowboy hats, and sunglasses wishing everyone a "Happy November!" We came home, danced around the living room, wore ourselves out, and went to bed.

Saturday morning we woke to find this on the board "I've seen my last days in the girls' pad. Thanks for the memories. I love you all!" from Jami. She moved out Friday night. It was a day of change. I moved into her room, Laura into my room and Terrell (our new roommate) into Laura's room. My room went from a huge palace to a shoebox...literally. It fits my bed and a book shelf. I am crammed in this cabana over the porch...but I'm saving $$ for my trip, so I can do it! Dave got the "Freedom Pass" at Blockbuster Video, so we went on a video rental spree this weekend. We rented Happy, Texas, The Sum of All Fears, Super Troopers, and Next Friday and spent the weekend hibernating. It was SO cold this weekend....so it was perfect.

Off to staff meeting and then, yes Jules...to rock my vote!
